Controlling Robots With Brainwaves & Hand Gestures

Robots are becoming more accepted in contexts extending from a business unit or labs to study halls or homes. Creating an advancement towards this goal. The experimenters at MIT ’s robotics research lab. have made it possible using a system that is connected to your brain which enables to tell robots how to do their job.

Brain and Muscle Signals that a person normally generates are being used by the research workers to generate a high speed and automatic interface for operating a robot.

In their demonstrations, the robot picks from a number of targets for a mock drilling task.  The researchers process brain signals to identify whether the person thinks the robot is making a mistake.

They have also processed muscle signals to identify when they signal to the left or right. In conjunction, this enables the person to stop the robot instantly by just mentally estimating its choices and then suggest the correct choice by scrolling through options with signals.

PhD candidate Joseph DelPreto said -“By looking at both muscle and brain signals. we can start to pick up on a person’s natural gestures along with their snap decisions about whether something is going wrong,”.“This helps make interaction with a robot more like interacting with another person.”
